Selling furniture, gifts, wedding favours and clothes with a huge following!
Velvet was set up in 2000 by husband and wife duo, Nick and Emma Harrop. With the help of Emma's mum, Iris Draper, they have expanded the gifts and accessory shop to include furniture, lighting, clothes and shoes. The shop now has a wealth of celebrity customers, from actors to footballers wives to politicians to Big Brother house mates and pop stars.
We have worked with Velvet since the early days and were lucky enough to have been chosen to build their first online venture.
Since then, we built the Velvet Wedding store to market their wedding products and more recently combined their e-commerce ventures to launch the NEW Velvet Store built in Magento (of course) and combining their wedding, furniture and gift products.
The Velvet Store in Brighton has continued to go from strength to strength so it is always exciting to be involved in Velvet's expansion.
What we did
E-Commerce
- It was important to continue with the strong look and feel of the Velvet branding.
- We used the same navigational structure, but working with the Velvet team, reorganised the information architecture to include the wedding, furniture and gift products.
- The menu categories are designed to help the user find products by theme, decorations, garden and outdoor accessories, furniture and much more.
- The Velvet Store site was built using Magento, a feature-rich e-commerce platform that offers merchants complete flexibility and control over the presentation, content, and functionality of their online store as well as easily manage products, customers and sales.

Using Magento as an operating system for our new site has completely changed the way we use our website, it is extremely user friendly with a great dashboard section providing an instant overview of site activity. Front of house the site looks amazing and links easily to our other online store. Magnetic Works were on hand throughout the whole process to answer our questions and provided in depth Magento training as part of our package, they are also providing an excellent level of aftercare.
